...will self destruct in 5 seconds...

Perhaps it's an indication of the increasingly increasing (velocity = meters per second per second)speed of our reality; even secret messages have a shorter half life these days.

I was watching Mission impossible III the other night and I noticed that Ethan's message went poof in 5 seconds as opposed to the original 30.

Jeez man. What happens if you get distracted. "Hey, what was the middle bit again?" There's no going back. And the bad guys are usually foreign, or something; with names like Rastapopopulous (apologies to Herge). Then what? Do secret agents go to memory school?

God help you if you're an old fashioned secret agent, used to the regulation 30 seconds, and you're a bit tardy in pulling the secret-message-containing-spy-lomo-miniature-camera away from your eyeballs? Oh, wait, I forgot - spy guys wear sun glasses, so it's ok.

I dunno.

In strictly mathematical terms acceleration is metres per second per second, velocity is metres per second. Still five seconds to self-destruct is too quick.
